Read the Study: Economic Impact of Port San Antonio and its Tenants, 2007

San Antonio, TX - May 1, 2008. In a public briefing today, the Institute for Economic Development joined Port San Antonio to report results of a study of the economic impact of the Port and its tenants in 2007, with consideration for major new additions to the Port in 2008.

Study Highlights:

    -   The Port and its tenants accounted for $1.5 billion in total output in 2007. This generated an additional $1.0 billion in secondary spending, including support of suppliers and spending by employees. Total direct and secondary impact on Bexar County was $2.5 billion.

    -   The Port and its tenants employed 8,529 people in 2007. Secondary spending supported an additional 8,623 jobs, resulting in a total 17,152 Bexar County jobs supported.

    -   The total Bexar County economic impact of the Port and its tenants resulted in approximately $52.2 million in local taxes, $44.6 million in state taxes, and $20.3 million in payments for electricity and gas.

    -   Boeing's 787 Dreamliner (440 new jobs) and additions of new Air Force personnel (2,400 new jobs) will increase the Port San Antonio economic impact by approximately one-third in 2008.
